ATTENTION! Rhinos Spotted In Chiang Mai, don’t worry though, not the animal but the touring team from Asia.
The Rhinos are a team that has been in the making for the best part of 50 years. The humble beginning of this team began in 1985 in Kowloon Hong Kong.
Over the period of two years since COVID broke out, Lanna Rugby Club have been in touch with the Rhinos Rugby Club to one day be able to play this well known touring team in Asia.
The special thing about the Rhinos is that they don’t have their own ground and play a rugby match once a year, all over the world. Fast forwards to September 2022, the Rhinos chose to visit Chiang Mai to play a friendly between Lanna Lions and another local rugby club, Chiang Mai Cobras.
It was a fiery hot September day in Chaing Mai when Rhinos were spotted at Chiang Mai University where the 10s rugby match would take place.
As the Rhinos are made up of players who have played rugby all their life is is certain to say that they put the Lions through their paces. Eventually, after a hard fought battle and a cheeky try from LRC here and there, the Rhinos over turned us and thoroughly deserved the win.
Later on, the Lions, Rhinos and Cobras celebrated at a local watering hole. The touring team were kind enough to put on the food and even drink to say thank you for making this rugby day possible.
Hopefully it isn’t too long before Lanna Rugby Club can welcome the Rhinos back for more fun and festivities.
