During September Lanna Rugby Club had the fortunate situation of connecting with Kiwis that love the game we love so much!
Prior to the meet up, Jess, who is a member of the Lanna Lionesses, asked if it would be ok if her Kiwi friends who were travelling to Chiang Mai for a few weeks could help out with Lanna Rugby Club be it coaching or playing.
Finally, they arrived in CM and were right into the Mix. Rachel, Siliva and their son Zeph. From the get go they were keen to help in every which way. Zeph and Siliva got stuck in with the Rhinos tour match. As well as coming down each Saturday morning to help with the Grassroots rugby coaching.
Both Siliva and Zeph were fantastic help with helping the children understand new techniques for scrummaging, lineouts and rucks. The U14s were able to put these new found knowledge to the test in the Thai National 7s competition where the Boys team even managed to steal a couple of scrums from the opposition.
Whilst Zeph and Siliva were busy helping us coach the players, Rachel was getting involved with trying to link us up with the teams in New Zealand. The hopes are we may be able to form a bond with the teams in NZ to further develop the rugby in Thailand.
All being well this is not the last time Lanna Rugby Club will be connecting up with Kiwis!
