On the 17th August it was finally time for the Chiang Mai 11s League to begin, sponsored by Dimbulla Estate.
It was a cloud over cast day, yet the heat was prolific as always. The Lanna Lions today were up against the local university team, which is where all the matches for the league are held, Chiang Mai University (CMU).
This preseason has seen Lanna Rugby Club recruit a record number of new players to strengthen their squad. Coach Matt Levy, alongside Direct Matt Hirst, took the lads through some pre-match drills in readiness for what would become an exciting league match opener.
The Lions took to the pitch with a new kit design for the league, Having a the team logo emblazoned onto the front, striking fear into the enemies’ eyes!
Kick of was sounded and the Lions got stuck in. There was a flurry of tries throughout the match with Jamie managing to pop three past the home side.
The Lanna Lions have come on a long way since the 2018 days, organised, communicative, with a few steady heads from Phil and Louis. In defense as well as in attack the Lions kept a level head and stuck with formation that had been drilled in throughout preseason. Brilliant work Lions!
